![]() ![]() It's not the first time Inazuma Eleven goes over the Battle of Okehazama and the meeting of Nobunaga and Toyotomi, as it was a plot point in Inazuma Eleven GO: Chrono Stones. ![]() His given name Suruga refers to an old major province of Japan where one of the most important battles to unify Japan took place, the Battle of Okehazama, where Oda Nobunaga grew closer and recognized for the first time the talents of Toyotomi Hideyoshi, the second great unifier of Japan, after Oda himself, marking a series of events that marked the beggining of a new era of a united Japan. His family name has the kanji for a willow tree ("柳") a central figure in the folklore tale of the "Spirit of a Willow Tree" a somewhat sad story about how everything must come to an end and how after that new beginnings come and one must make an effort to live in a new reality. Yagiyū Suruga is a tanned tall blonde boy that we can very safely assume to be a member of the school's baseball team- due to a small cutscene we saw on the newest trailer, where he had a baseball bat, and to a small detail on the same trailer where he is playing in a 5v5 game wearing a baseball kit and the fact that his family name, is close to the japanese word for baseball ( 野球, yakyū). Knowing how the history plays and with the information we got from the March 9th trailer we can see how his namesake relates to his character. Other constituents of his name are the kanji "明" meaning ' brighten' and his family name that has is a homophone of "運命" meaning destiny/fate. Our protagonist, Sasanami Unmei, had already his namesake discussed by the series creator, Hino Akihiro, about how his given name has the kanji "雲" meaning cloud, the reasoning for that according to Hino is how lightning (inazuma) comes from them- refering to the spirit of Raimon. So, what clues can the names of the new characters give us? Let's begin! His English name, Xavier Foster, other than refering to his status as a foster child the name Xavier (other than sounding very otherworldy lmao) means "new home" in Basque- both references to his status as an orphan and as a (supposed) alien in a new planet. Kiyama Hiroto having **the kanji "基" meaning foundation, groundwork or base and Hiroto being a name whose characters refer to the Ursa Major, the constellation used as a star clock at night that is also used to locate the Polaris star within the Ursa Minor and that can never be seen under the horizon- refering to his status as the captain of the Gaia and Genesis teams and to his otherwordly alien persona as a member of the Aliea Gakuen. His English name " Riccardo Di Rigo" being a reference to the Italian ballet and opera composer, maestro and pianist virtuoso Riccardo Drigo. Shindō Takuto, with "神童" meaning quite literally meaning "child prodigy" and "拓 (taku)" vagely meaning clearing the way/field, also having "扌" as one of its constituents, that being a variant of " 手 ", meaning hand- a reference to the hissatsu tactic Kami no Takuto. Tsurugi Kyōsuke having the kanji "剣" meaning sword, with his English name being Victor Blade, with his given name meaning conqueror. Gōenji Shūya having the kanji "豪炎" meaning magnificent/powerful flames, with his English surname being Blaze. In Inazuma Eleven it's not something well hidden that every character's namesake and etymology is very obviously, directly and indiscreetly related to their theme, abilities, special techniques and elemental prowess on the field (both in Japanese and English).Įven though it's absolutely not needed to, but here are some examples. ![]()
